The work communicates how everyday discarded objects may be viewed differently once removed from their environment and placed in a studio or gallery space. Whilst it is appreciated that the work is not always aesthetically pleasing, it does not mean it is not interesting. My focus has been more on the objects themselves working together to create something surprising. Whilst the work resonates the outside world, the gallery context forces what may be considered as rubbish to transcend it's materiality and our own pre conceptions. The large sculpture suspended from the ceiling creates a conversation between the smaller pieces fixed to the wall. The techniques to make the two are the same in that the base structure is fixed in the centre and built around using objects. The larger piece also allows the viewer to walk around its entire circumference, space then becoming important and it suggests the objects freedom and interaction it's able to have with the viewer. Triggering ideas about interpretation and freedom therefore has become important.i have let me work evolve as I create, leaving interpretation open to the individual.
